Tonight, join “lowbrow” artist Camille Rose Garcia for a night devoted to her new book “Mirror, Black Mirror,” which showcases work from a prolific and life-changing period when, disenchanted with modernity and feeling disconnected from the natural world, she fled Los Angeles for a cabin in the Northern California woods. The resulting layered, broken narrative paintings of wasteland fairy tales are influenced by William S. Burrough’s cut-up writings and surrealist film, as well as vintage Disney and Fleischer cartoons, acting as critical commentaries on the failures of capitalist utopias, blending nostalgic pop culture references with a satirical slant on modern society.

In tonight’s lecture, Camille Rose Garcia will unveil her new monograph and discuss the inspiration behind of her work. Copies of the book “Mirror, Black Mirror” will also be available for sale and signing.

Camille Rose Garcia is the child of a Mexican activist filmmaker and a muralist/painter.
