A kitten’s wedding, frogs playing pool, stuffed pets and ball gowns embroidered with beetle wings are all objects from the wonderful era of the 19th century that is referred to as Victorian. Author John Whitenight will be sharing images and information related to his current book, “Under Glass: A Victorian Obsession,” as we explore the lighter and sometimes more “practical” side of Victorian taxidermy. Whether it was the anthropomorphic creatures of Hermann Ploucquet and Walter Potter or jewelry crafted from hummingbirds, no other era has embraced the natural world in such a whimsical and creative manner.Join us for an evening of looking at taxidermy from a very different angle.
